Claire at work

My name is Claire Ogden and I’m a photographic artist who lives by the sea in Falmouth, Cornwall.

I started my working life as an accountant with KPMG and then spent more than twenty years as a project director, leading teams delivering technical development and design projects for clients in the UK, Europe and US.

Now I’m retired and it’s my turn to get creative!

I’ve always loved taking photographs and for a long time I enjoyed accurately capturing the true beauty and details of nature, particularly butterflies and wild flowers. Over the last few years my work has become more abstract as I’ve experimented with patterns, textures, shapes, light and colour to create unique images.

Now I particularly enjoy the results from photographing water and use different techniques to create abstract images that reflect its ever changing form.

I also love wandering around harbours and boatyards, looking for details that have exciting colour, pattern or texture.

Cornwall is a good place to live for new inspiration every day….it’s very exciting!

My images have been selected for a number of prestigious exhibitions in world renowned venues including Saatchi Gallery in London, the Royal West of England Academy in Bristol and various venues in Cornwall including the Penwith Gallery in St Ives, the Cornwall Museum and Art Gallery in Truro and the Falmouth Art Gallery in Falmouth. The full history of exhibitions is listed on the Exhibition News page.

I’ve also had success in various international photography competitions. Several of my images have been awarded in the International Garden Photographer of the Year competition since 2020, most notably winning the Abstract Views category in 2021. An image awarded third place in the Square Crop Project the previous year was included in the IGPOTY exhibition at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew, London and various other venues in the UK and across Europe.

Eight of my images have been shortlisted in Close-Up Photographer of the Year since 2021. I’ve been a finalist in British Wildlife Photographer of the Year and included in their competition book in 2026. One image was selected for inclusion in the beautiful competition book for the Natural Landscape Photography Awards in 2025.

Some of the successful images are shown on the Competition News page.

My images are available to buy as small number, often 5 or less, limited editions. They are usually printed on aluminium or premium quality photographic papers offering exceptional detail, vivid colour and strong contrasts. My work is held in private collections in the UK, Europe, the US and Australia.

I hope you enjoy looking at the sample of my work on this website and if you would like to know more then please get in touch.
