The tiny stream falls through the water garden at Trebah Garden near Falmouth in Cornwall over a series of small steps. Each is only about 30cm wide and mostly drop less far but in a sequence they’re very pretty and make an attractive sound.
Even in early spring these steps are surrounded by lovely plants and looking up the garden from the bottom is magical.
I chose to concentrate on the detail of the water as it fell over the edge of a slate step. It was catching the small amount of light making it through the tree cover and reflecting patches of pale sky. The results were very delicate and I felt I was watching a shimmering dance as the light seemed more like smoke within the flow.
The stream sometimes created very geometric patterns and then completely random shapes in shades of greys and blue. It was the abstract highlights of this image that I felt best caught the ethereal nature of the scene.
